How Long is the LASIK Recovery Time?

The recovery time from LASIK surgery with Dr. Manger is quite short. Choosing to have LASIK surgery doesn’t mean you’ll have to put your life on hold.

Virtually all of our LASIK patients are able to resume their normal activities the very day following their procedure.

Here is a detailed explanation of what the after-care experience will be like

Immediately After Your Procedure

Right after having LASIK surgery done, you’ll need to rest your eyes for a few hours.

For that reason, you’ll want to arrange to get a ride home following your procedure, unless you’ve coordinated alternative travel arrangements with us (we do provide patients outside the Orange County area with a complimentary hotel stay, along with transportation to and from the hotel).

We’ll send you home with specific postoperative instructions (but don’t worry, because they’re simple and easy to follow), including antibiotic eye drops that you’ll want to administer according to the suggested schedule.

The evening of your surgery, we’ll ask that you refrain from reading, using a computer or doing any strenuous activities (such as going to the gym) until after your post-operative appointment the following day, so be prepared to sit back, relax and enjoy a few hours of time off from the typical stresses of daily life. We do recommend patients take a nap for a few hours following their procedure, if possible. Upon awakening, it’s fine to watch TV and have dinner.

And during the days following your procedure, we’ll recommend that you wear high-quality, polarized sunglasses while you’re outside, as these will protect your eyes from potential damage from invisible ultraviolet (UV) rays. Technically, you should be wearing polarized sunglasses all the time outdoors, whether or not you’ve had LASIK.

How You Will Feel After LASIK

The vast majority of our patients feel fin even immediately after having LASIK surgery, though some do experience slightly blurry vision for a few hours immediately following their procedure while their eyes are healing.

We will recommend that you use the antibiotic eye drops you are provided to protect against potential infection. Additionally, you will use over-the-counter lubricating drops for the first three months to help prevent any temporary dryness.

Healing after LASIK eye surgery is a rapid process, with most patients experiencing 20/20 or better vision the day following their procedure.
Perhaps the best part about the healing process is how hands-off it is, both literally and figuratively. All you’ll need to do is use your eye drops according to the provided schedule and avoid rubbing your eyes for a short period of time.

We’re not exaggerating at all when we say that virtually everyone who opts for our custom LASIK procedure is able to return to normal activities within just 24 hours. The very next day, our patients are back to work, driving, using computers, reading and watching TV.

You will be able to resume activities such as jogging, tennis, golf and going to the gym following your one-day post-operative visit. We do recommend no swimming for one week, and the second week wearing waterproof goggles to keep water out of your eyes.

All told, the LASIK recovery process is extremely easy, and significantly less intensive than other forms of surgery.

Follow-Up Care

Saddleback Eye Center takes patient care extremely seriously, because your eyes deserve the very best care available!

Our surgeon, Dr. Charles Manger, has personally performed over 72,000 LASIK procedures and is ranked in the top 1% of LASIK surgeons nationwide, and his follow-up care process is truly second to none.

First, all postoperative care for 1 full year is included in the price of our LASIK procedure, including your initial post-operative prescription medications, as well as any enhancement that might be necessary to fine-tune your vision.

We should point out, though, that enhancements are almost never required, with less 2% of Dr. Manger’s patients ever needing any sort of additional treatment after their original LASIK procedure.

Most of our competitors, and especially the budget or discount LASIK centers, offer only 3-6 months of postoperative care, do not include the cost of prescription medications, and don’t cover the costs of enhancements at all, leaving you to foot for the bill for having the procedure touched-up.

Our dedication to ensuring that you end up with great vision is how we earned our reputation for providing the Saddleback Difference, and why tens of thousands of patients from around the world have decided to trust Dr. Manger with the task of perfecting their vision.
