LASIK Eye Exam FAQs
The vast majority of health insurance plans consider LASIK to be cosmetic or elective and do not typically cover LASIK surgery. Some plans may offer a discount for members interested in the procedure. We can provide an itemized superbill that patients may submit to their insurance company for any possible reimbursement, but we do not bill directly through insurance.Check out other forms of payment and financing options here.
To be eligible for a LASIK exam:
- Must be between the ages of 18-65.
- Good general health
- Not have certain eye conditions (such as keratoconus or significant cataracts)
During your exam, Dr. Manger will evaluate your eyes to determine if you are a suitable candidate for LASIK surgery.
During the LASIK exam, we will conduct a series of tests to evaluate your eyes and vision. These tests include:
- Measuring your prescription
- Checking for any eye conditions
- Mapping surface of your eyes
The LASIK exam is a non-invasive, comprehensive evaluation of your eyes and carries no significant risks or side effects. However, some tests may require dilation of the pupils, which can cause temporary light sensitivity and blurred vision. If dilation is required, you are advised to arrange for someone to drive you home after the exam.
After your LASIK exam, Dr. Manger will discuss the results with you and provide a recommendation based on your unique eye condition. If you’re a good candidate for LASIK, Saddleback Eye Center will discuss the details of the procedure, recovery process, and cost.

LASIK is a surgical procedure intended to reduce and potentially eliminate your need for glasses or contact lenses. As with all surgical procedures, there are risks that will be discussed with you prior to having your procedure. These risks include, but are not limited to fluctuating vision, visual symptoms like glare or haloes around lights, dry eyes that require eye drops, and the occasional need for a retreatment.
