How LASIK works. LASIK corrects your vision by reshaping your cornea so that light focuses more precisely on your retina. The first step of the LASIK procedure is the creation of a corneal flap, a thin segment of the outer layer of the cornea. This flap can be created two different ways — with an oscillating metal blade in a device called a microkeratome, or with a computer-controlled laser called the Intralase laser. The Intralase laser is the preferred method of treatment and is known as bladeless or All-Laser LASIK.
All-Laser LASIK offers patients a more accurate treatment than the metal blade and creates a thinner, more precise and more stable corneal flap. Dr. Manger is dedicated to offering his patients the highest quality technology in the industry and therefore only performs All-Laser Custom LASIK.
Benefits of All-Laser Custom LASIK
- Increased accuracy and precision
- Reduced patient anxiety
- Reduced complications
- Reduced occurrence of side effects such as halos and glare
All-Laser Custom LASIK is one of the most popular vision correction procedures in the U.S. today due to its ability to painlessly correct common vision problems. And, the procedure has been approved by the FDA to correct a broader range of prescriptions than ever before.
A decade in the making, the All-Laser Custom LASIK procedure performed by Dr. Manger combines the most advanced laser vision correction technology available: Wavefront technology, the Intralase femtosecond laser, and a cold-beam excimer laser. Dr. Manger is one of a very select group of LASIK surgeons in the United States who has the two most advanced excimer lasers (treatment lasers) side-by-side in his fully accredited surgery center. He has both the VISX Star 4 with Iris Registratxion laser and the Allegretto Wavelight laser available so that he can completely customize a unique treatment plan for each patient. This allows Dr. Manger to use the best laser for each individual patient’s eyes, instead of taking the “one size fits all” approach utilized by most surgeons who have only one laser available. It’s just one more reason that Saddleback Eye Center is truly one of this country’s most elite vision correction practices and is how LASIK works.
